Welcome students new and old to session two of “Draw on This”! Today we had a great day with many new students all eager to have some fun!
We returned back to the good old Monart method and reviewed the different types of lines and shapes that we will use and talk about for the next 10 weeks. To make sure that everyone understood these different lines and shapes and for a fun warm up, we started with an introductory abstract exercise from Monart. I gave everyone the same instructions to draw a series of lines and shapes. Check out the wonderful variety of interpretations!—
After our great warm up we were ready to start drawing! Using our lines and shapes, I instructed the students on how to draw the head of a koala. We started with blocking in basic shapes with a light coloured marker then we recreated the lines that we wanted to keep by using a dark coloured marker. This was my initial example for the students.—
Together and step by step, we re-created this drawing. Once finished, the students were permitted to decorate their koala as they pleased. We have some great results—
